5 Years B.A., LL.B. Course
B.A., LL.B. program is a 10-semester full-time course. The first 2 years (4 semesters) constitute a ‘pre-law’ course, where the student is taught social-science subjects like Economics, Political Science, History, English and Legal Language etc. The next three years are at par with the curriculum of three years law course. In 8th and 10th semester, the students have the choice of selecting optional subjects along with some compulsory subjects. The practical training papers are compulsory for all the students. The B.A. or the Bachelor of Arts degree is awarded to the students by the University of Mumbai after successful completion of the 3rd year and the LL.B. degree is awarded after completion of 5th year.
The B.A. degree is a great boon to the students, as the student is declared a graduate after 3 years and becomes free to pursue other PG courses and becomes eligible to apply for jobs or give various entrance exams.
3 Years LL.B. Course
Graduates have the option of enrolling for the 3 Years LL.B degree. The LL.B. degree is a three-year program with classes devoted solely to the study of law. A student, who has successfully completed three years study, is entitled to the LL.B. degree and is eligible to practice as an advocate, as per the Rules of the Bar Council of India. In 4th and 6th semester, the students have the choice of selecting optional subjects along with some compulsory subjects. The practical training papers are compulsory for all the students.
Admission – Five-Year Law Course
The Primary Requisite for admission in the Five Year Law Course shall be appearing in CET Examination.
The Candidate must have passed the H.S.C (10+2) examination, conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, with minimum 45% marks or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto by the University of Mumbai with the minimum prescribed marks is eligible for admission to the first year of the pre law course. The above percentage shall be relaxed by such percentage as may be prescribed by the authorities from time to time, for the candidates belonging to the reserved categories.
Admission – Three-Year Law Course
The Primary Requisite for admission in the Three Year Law Course shall be appearing in CET Examination.
A Candidate passing the Bachelor’s Degree Examination of the Mumbai University, in any faculty with minimum 45% marks or a corresponding degree examination of any other University recognized as equivalent thereto by the Mumbai University with the minimum prescribed marks is eligible for admission to the First Year L.L.B. The above percentage shall be relaxed by such percentage as may be prescribed by the authorities from time to time, for the candidates belonging to the reserved categories.
CET Examination
The CET Examination for the 3-year LLB course and the 5-year BA LLB course is conducted by State Common Entrance Test Cell, Government of Maharashtra on the specified dates. The details are published on the official site of CET Cell from time to time and students are required to follow the said instruction and schedule published by the State Common Entrance Test Cell.

Admission is purely on merit and is subject to availability of seats as per the directions issued by University of Mumbai and Government of Maharashtra from time to time. A transparent admission procedure is followed strictly based on the standard norms. Any modification in admission guidelines will be notified on the college notice board at the time of admission.
After the result of CET examination is declared, the State Common Entrance Test Cell publishes merit list of the students. The students are required to give options of the Law Colleges desired by them for admission in preferential order. For getting admission in DVS Adv. PC Patil Law College of Law, the students must give this college, first preference while submitting online option form.
The CET cell make allotment of college to the students and the students are required to secure the admission in college allotted to them within the time stipulated by the CET Cell. If the desired college is not allotted in the cap round, the students can wait for subsequent round for allotment of college. In case the desire college is not allotted in any of the Cap Round, then the admission in desired college can be secured in last round i.e. institutional round (vacant seats after cap round + Institution quota seats), however admission in institutional round is also subject to availability of seats and purely on merit.
At the time of submitting online admission form with the State CET, the students submit various details viz. marks secured in various examinations including qualifying examination, Caste Reservation, Linguistic Minority, Religious Minority, etc. The merit list is prepared by State CET on the basis CET score and the other updates submitted by the students at the time of filling up the online form and allotment of the college is made on the basis of said updates and consequent merit list.
The said details are verified at the time of admitting the student in College and therefore it is the responsibility of the students to substantiate all the claims made by him at the time of submitting his details with State CET Cell. -
At the time of taking admission all the necessary documents must be submitted before the College Authorities. The College reserves its right to deny admission, if it is found that the details submitted by the student with State CET Cell are contrary to actual record.
The students are also specifically informed that after admission of the students in college, his documents are verified by the Admission Regulating Authority i.e. ARA (Directorate of Higher Education, Maharashtra State, Pune) and the provisional admission given by the College is confirmed only after approval of ARA. If the claim made by the student before State CET (As shown in merit list) in respect of caste, reservation, religious or linguistic minority is found to be not supported by legitimate documents, then ARA would not confirm the admission and such admission is liable to be cancelled. It is further brought to the notice of the student, that the college authorities shall not be responsible in any manner, if the admission of a student is cancelled due to non-approval by Admission Regulating Authority on account of falsity in claim of the student. -

Except First two years of five years Law Course, there shall be practical training examination for each year of both courses. The pattern and syllabus of the examination shall be as prescribed by the Mumbai University and the mode and manner of conducting practical training examination i.e. Written Examination, Viva Voce, Writing Journal, etc. shall be notified in detail on the notice board of the College along with distribution of marks under various heads.
The practical Training Examination of relevant year is conducted before the regular examination of that year. It is mandatory to pass the practical training examination for being eligible for appearing in Regular Examination. The candidate is required to secure at least 40% marks in Practical Training Examination. -
• Advocate – Litigation (Court Cases) :
Practicing as a Lawyer in various Courts would be the first option. There are various Courts, Tribunal and quasi-judicial authorities, where the lawyers are required to show their skill and assist the litigants for justice. With experience and expertise, there are variety of areas, in which a lawyer can do practice in specialized area
• Advocate – Non Litigation:
Instead practicing as a Lawyer in various Courts, an advocate can do only chamber practice i.e. Drafting Agreements, Title Reports for various financial institutions, drafting various legal drafts, etc.
• Government Pleader / Public Prosecutor:
Law graduate who has practiced as an advocate for seven years is eligible to be appointed as Government Pleader / Public Prosecutor In District Courts / High Court. This post is for limited years as prescribed by the Government in Appointment Order. Law graduate who has practiced as an advocate for Five years is eligible to appear for the written examination for the posts of Assistant Public Prosecutor – Group A posts, conducted by the MPSC. The person so appointed can work on said post till his retirement.
• JUDICIAL SERVICE:
Civil Judge Junior Division & Judicial Magistrate First Class Examination is conducted by MPSC – Law graduate who has passed Law Examination without ATKT (First Attempt) or has practiced as an advocate for Three years is eligible to appear for the written examination. Appointment is subject to Result of Examination and Interview.
• TEACHING PROFESSION:
Establishment Number of Law Colleges and shortage of law graduates possessing required qualification has created lot of job opportunities in teaching profession. A Law Graduate who has passed LL.M. examination with minimum 55% marks and has qualified NET / SET Examination is eligible to be appointed as Asst. Professor in Law (a full-time Faculty). Due to shortage of sufficient qualified professors, presently a Law Graduate who has passed LL.M. examination with minimum 55% marks can be appointed as Asst. Professor on contractual basis. So also a practicing advocate, who has passed LL.M. examination with minimum 55% marks can work as Lecturer in Law as a part time faculty.
• SERVICE AS LAW OFFICER:
A Practicing Lawyer can get job as Law Manager in various banking institution. So also there are lot of opportunities of employment in Municipal Council, Municipal Corporation, Government Bodies viz. CIDCO, MSRTC, MSEDCL as Legal Advisor / Law Officer.
• CIVIL SERVICES:
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts a nation-wide examination for recruitment to various civil service positions in the Government like Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Foreign Services (IFS), Indian Police Services (IPS), etc. So also Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) conducts a state-wide examination for recruitment to various civil service positions in the State. The syllabus of Law as well as experience gained by the law graduate, make is little easier to appear for these examinations.
